MEGT Australia is a not-for-profit organisation established in 1982 which specialises in education and training for employment, apprenticeships and traineeships. MEGT operates in every Australian state as well as in the UK.

Childcare industry facts:

Australia is set to experience a mini baby boom (34.2%) over the next five years, with the childcare industry set to surge as the country’s birth rate rises by 6.4%. (source: IBIS World). As a result, there are currently significant employment opportunities within the sector in Australia which are expected to continue for years to come.

In response to this Australian employment need, MEGT delivers early childhood education and care programmes designed to provide you with practical expertise that you can take straight from our classroom into the workplace. Learning is doing, not just studying theory. This practical experience aims to give you a real advantage over other graduates.

Career and university pathways

Career pathways to a job or university

With an MEGT qualification you can directly enter the workforce with a certificate or diploma, or build credits from our diploma toward a university degree. MEGT Institute maintains and is developing ongoing relationships with a number of higher education institutions across New South Wales and Victoria.

University pathways

We have formal articulation arrangements with universities where you can be granted credit for units studied in your diploma programme. Students completing the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care through MEGT are guaranteed admission and 12 months full-time study equivalent of credit towards the Western Sydney University (WSU) Bachelor of Arts, and are eligible for entry into the Bachelor of Education (Birth to Five years) and the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary) at ACU.

Work placements and training

Work after graduation

Graduating diploma students can also apply for a training and research visa through MEGT to work full time in a childcare centre while up-skilling in centre management.

Work placements (during the course)

MEGT Institute arranges for students studying on campus to undertake a work placement in a registered education and care service. This service is offered free of charge on behalf of our students, unlike many other colleges offering this course in Australia who require you to find your work placement independently. Work placement for both our day and evening programme consists of three days per week in 10 work placement weeks over the duration of the course. This totals 30 days (240 hours).

Training methods

Our courses involve a combination of classroom and online learning, resource development, practical sessions, research and project work plus work placement in a registered education and care service. Students are required to attend scheduled structured training for a minimum of 20 hours per week: 15 hours face-to-face and 5 hours online. We use a range of assessment methods including role plays, written assessments, skills demonstration, projects, training records and work samples for the assessment of competency.

Modern facilities

Our courses are delivered in light and modern campuses in the heart of Sydney and Melbourne CBD. Both campuses are a few minutes walk to all primary forms of transport. Students have access to computers and free wifi across the campuses, as well as to large, comfortable classrooms, a simulated childcare centre and well-resourced kitchen facilities. MEGT Institute offers students access to support staff and extra curricular activities to ensure students feel well supported and welcome. Our campuses have a busy friendly feeling, attracting students from all over the world.
