Studying a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing at TAFE Western Australia will help you to develop the professional skills you need to have a successful career as a veterinary nurse.  If you enjoy working with animals then this course will provide you with practical skills and knowledge that you will need to help veterinarians in the treatment and care of animals requiring medical and surgical attention.

On the Certificate VI course, you will learn to carry out veterinary clinic reception duties, help with surgical preparations and procedures, respond to emergencies, take blood tests and x-rays and prepare medicines prescribed by the vet.   You will also learn how to provide safe and effective animal care, comply with infection control and maintain equipment. You will gain a comprehensive knowledge of workplace safety, general administration, stock control as well as coordinating consulting and theatre routines.

Veterinary nursing students will participate in practical training at the veterinary clinic located on campus, where you will also be able to advise clients about nutrition, animal care, grooming and parasite control products.

The veterinary nursing courses are delivered at Polytechnic West Bentley, a campus renowned for its pleasant gardens and relaxed friendly ambience. The campus is only a short distance to Perth city centre and forms part of a larger education precinct, which includes Curtin University.

The Certificate IV course is a nationally recognised course, and as with all courses at TAFE WA are government backed and guaranteed. International students can study a range of certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas and associate degree qualifications at TAFE WA.  TAFE qualifications can also provide pathways to further study at university.

Admission Requirements: Equivalent of Year 12 with passes in Maths and Science is required for entry into this course. Students for whom English is not their first language, will need an IELTS score (academic) of 5.5 with no band score less than 5.0 or equivalent to gain entry to this course.
