Working on an Australian student visa

As an international student in Australia it is a visa requirement for you to study full time. Students who are enrolled on further education courses in Australia are, however, eligible to work up to 40 hours per fortnight during the term time and full time in the holiday periods while on a student visa.

At the moment Australia has a strong job market which means that it is generally not difficult for students to find part time employment in or around the universities. Typically students undertake work in restaurants, cafes, bars, tutoring, administration or retail. Part time work while studying can be very helpful in helping to meet living costs but is not usually enough to contribute towards tuition fees.

The minimum wage in Australia is currently $15.96 AUD per hour which is approximately £10.
